Vertebrate is Ten

Before Google became Google Inc, way back when Spam was still just a canned meat product to most people, two proto-geeks living in West London were starting to suspect that this interweb thing may just catch on...

On July 16th, 1998 we got a call confirming that we were going to be able to borrow the capital we needed to go into business.

It turned out that starting a web design company was slightly trickier than expected, not least because the vast majority of London businesses didn't know what a website was much less why would want one of their own.

It was, to say the least, a struggle. The wave of media hype created by the DotCom Boom helped a bit. The subsequent implosion when it turned out that some DotComs may have been somewhat over-valued was a bit of a glitch.

By steadfastly turning down all offers of investment, sticking to our principles and refusing to expand we managed to survive.

Ten years on, we're still here, we still haven't expanded, we're still entirely independent. The main difference is that now we're turning down more work than we're taking on. Which is exactly how we like it.
