FAQ
Is Vertebrate hiring at the moment..?
We get quite a few mails from people looking for work.
While we're not actually looking for any staff right now, we're always interested in hearing from designers, artists and programmers. We're hoping we'll have some work to pass onto freelancers one day.
NB; please don't send us your portfolio/cv as an email attachment. Unsolicited attachments get nuked long before they make it through to our mail server. Send plain text or send us URLs where we can find examples of your work and we promise to take a look.
Does Vertebrate take on subcontracted work..?
Yes we do, subject to two conditions:
We don't like to work with people who mark up our prices so far that the client ends up paying over the odds.
We don't work with people who expect to do nothing but take a large chunk of the fees. Anyone taking a percentage on top of the work we do is expected to earn their money. ;)
I need a four-page brochure on the web; how much would this cost?
We don't do brochure sites. Don't get us wrong; a short brochure is exactly what some companies need, it's just that we're far better at getting our teeth into big horribly complex systems. We stick to what we're good at.
I'd like to put up a home page of my very own, can Vertebrate help me share my portfolio/family news/pet photos with the rest of the world..?
Accessibility is one of the things that makes the net worthwhile. It's no use unless everyone can use it for whatever purpose they deem reasonable. {Everybody}=i should have a website.
That said, we exist from time to time in the real world; we have bills, rent, and expensive technology habits to support.
We don't generally do individual's home pages; we'd rather encourage people to save their money and invest some time in learning how to make it happen for themselves.
If you really don't want to learn too much HTML and publish a few pictures etc on the web, and you happen to use a mac with OS9 or OS X then do check out mac.com and the Homepage publishing.
